This year MCLP chose nonprofit community partner organizations that are addressing COVID-19 relief and racial justice. Of the ten 501(c)3 organizations that submitted project proposals, Prairie State Legal Services, One Hope Project, The Immigration Project, YWCA, and INtegRIty Counseling were selected.
The Class of 2021 will work in teams of five to complete the following projects for each organization.
Prairie State Legal Services offers free legal services to low-income persons and those 60 and older needing legal help. The PSLS MCLP team will educate the community about local housing discrimination and PSLS’s efforts to help those affected.
One Hope Project was established in 2020 and is on a mission to walk alongside clients on their journey to recovery. They address eating disorders through education, intervention, and treatment. The MCLP project team’s efforts will focus on developing strategic plans and raising community awareness.
The Immigration Project is an organization that offers immigration legal assistance, providing low-income immigrants with services like green card renewals and removal defenses. This MCLP team will be working together to develop a training program for TIP’s Community Navigator volunteers, who educate immigrants about their rights, opportunities, and eligibility.
YWCA McLean County is a local organization that has played a constant role in families’ lives across our community. They serve individuals from all backgrounds and through every stage of life through their diverse program offerings. The project team assigned to YWCA will be developing an employer engagement component of a new program, YW Strive, designed to assist women and BIPOC who face employment barriers in their search for gainful employment and a career.
INtegRIty Counseling is a “pay-as-you-can” counseling agency that utilizes volunteer counselors to provide mental health services to those in need, especially the most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged residents of our community. The team assigned to INtegRity will create a strategic plan and support to set the organization up for long-term success.
The 2021 midterm presentations will be on December 10th, more information to come.
