MCLP Celebrates Class of 2020 with First Ever Virtual Graduation

Many unusual circumstances have marked the year 2020, and the MCLP graduation ceremony was no exception. Usually, a large celebration attended by family, friends, and community supporters, this year’s event had to do things a little differently.

We celebrated the graduates in a virtual ceremony that took place on June 13, 2020. Last year’s class speaker, Nayoka Griffis, served as emcee for the event, which took place via a Facebook live stream. Angell Howard, MSW, gave the keynote speech at graduation. She spoke about using your superpower to make a difference in the world and encouraged everyone to stay “avid learners”. This year’s class speaker was Sara Keene. She talked about the power of servant leadership and shared some heartfelt words with her fellow graduates.

The class was also addressed via video by each of their non-profit project partners. They expressed their gratitude and indicated how impressed they were with the work the teams completed in such a short amount of time.

Before the event ended, the Class of 2020 treated everyone to a special treat. They had created a dance video to “You Can Call Me Al,” by Paul Simon.
