The Multicultural Leadership Program welcomes Beni Kawakita as the new program director. Beni has worked many years in higher education, most recently as an admissions counselor for Western Illinois University. She has also worked as a multicultural director and admissions counselor at Illinois Wesleyan University. Beni holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University, as well as a B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan. Her extensive experience in non-profit higher education and in working with diverse communities will serve her well in her many responsibilities with MCLP. On a personal note, Beni resides in Normal with her husband Chris, daughter Olivia, son Reed, and greyhound Max. Her hobbies and interests include traveling, cooking, and volunteering.
